Every year I personalize menus for Vanity Fair's Academy Awards viewing party. This year it was at Spago. The photo on the right shows how the table setting looks with the menu and a small booklet they put together that contains all the Oscar nominees. Part of the job is to be on site before the event in case any last minute calligraphy is needed. It's always fun to go to the venue and see how pretty it comes together!
Every year Vanity Fair has an Academy Award viewing party. This year it was at Spago in Beverly Hills. They create these lovely little books which contain the menu as well as all of the categories of award nominees. My job is to calligraph the names of the guests on the menu covers. I then am hired to be on site for any last minute changes or additions. It was fun to see how beautiful the tables looked and to hear live music while everyone was bustling around the restaurant getting ready for the party.
Wednesday night Vanity Fair, along with Anna Zegna and Colin Firth and his wife Livia, hosted a dinner at Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood. It was a fundraiser for Oxfam, an international organization that works in over 90 countries to end poverty and injustice. I was hired by Vanity Fair to personalize the menus with each guest's name. The style I used here is a variation of Spencerian calligraphy. In addition to calligraphing the menus, I was asked to be on site in case they needed any last minute changes or additions. For several years now I've had the opportunity to work with Jessica Latham, the fabulous event manager at Vanity Fair. This year once again I calligraphed seating envelopes and place cards for their Academy Awards party. The place cards are actually booklets that contain the night's menu as well as all the nominees for the year. I had the pleasure of meeting Joan Allen who photographed the event. Joan provided me with the photos you see here. You can't see the calligraphy very well in the first photo, but I thought it was such a nice photo, I had to show you!
These are from an Academy Awards party given in March by Vanity Fair. They created these lovely little booklets that included the menu for the evening and all the academy award nominations. Each guest had one at their seat along with a tiny pencil to mark their choice for the award winners. The calligraphy style here is a variation of copperplate.
